SAN MATEO, Calif. -- AirWave Wireless, the leader in Wi-Fi network management and security, today announced the release of the AirWave Management Platform (AMP) v4.2 software. The new software gives IT staff in large enterprises and organizations the features they need to centrally manage and control large, distributed Wi-Fi networks.

Reflecting AMP's objective of simplifying wireless management and enabling enterprises to reduce Wi-Fi operating costs, Airwave's new release is designed to support an efficient division of labor among the IT staff.

"Many proprietary management solutions are designed for a small or medium-sized single-campus Wi-Fi network, where one person is responsible for all network management, security, and user support," said AirWave CEO Gary Hegna. "A 'one-size-fits-all' solution cannot work in a large IT organization with hundreds of individuals who may need information about the wireless network in order to do their job," he added.

One of the new software's key features is its support for both 'role-based' and 'responsibility-based' network management. Role-based management allows the IT staff to assign different levels of permission to users, so that Helpdesk Support staff can access real-time monitoring information to troubleshoot user problems but cannot change network configurations or security policies.

'Responsibility-based' management allows the organization to assign a network engineer control of the Wi-Fi network in one location without giving him any administrative privileges elsewhere. The AMP software even integrates with an organization's existing TACACS servers to manage these complex levels of permissions in a large IT staff.

For customers subject to Sarbanes-Oxley, Payment Card Industry (PCI), HIPAA and other regulations, the software provides a new set of compliance reports that help IT ensure that all managed devices are accounted for and configured properly, and that any unauthorized devices are detected immediately.
