WiFi Q2 Shakedown

Startup Aruba Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: ARUN) and Symbol Technologies Inc. (NYSE: SBL) improved their quarter-on-quarter sales in what was essentially a flat few months in the enterprise WiFi market, according to Synergy Research Group Inc. in its latest quarterly snapshot of the state of play.

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) remains top dog with over half the total market for enterprise access points, switches, and controllers. The networking giant, however, saw its sales drop four percent compared to the previous quarter, according to Synergy.

Symbol, which occupies its traditional second position grew sales five percent over the same period. The boost will be good news for the company as it prepares a new line of "RF Switches" for the end of 2006 (See Symbol Preps 'RF Switch'.)

Aruba's sales grew 21 percent quarter-on-quarter, a reasonably dramatic spurt over its modest growth last quarter.

3Com Corp. (Nasdaq: COMS) trailed behind the pack in fourth place. The vendor, which has an OEM deal with Trapeze Networks Inc. , saw its sales fall by 21 percent quarter-on-quarter.
