With the U.S. federal government alone now doling out $9.2 billion from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) to spur broadband deployment in rural and other underserved areas and over $40 billion more on the way from the new Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, cable, fiber, telco, wireless, satellite, municipal, utility and other broadband players are all angling for chunks of these huge public funding pies.
Yet, even as these new funding spouts are turning on, other major hurdles – such as equipment, labor, materials, contractors, regulatory, energy costs, etc.-- must be overcome before the digital divide can be closed, or at least narrowed.
How can operators and vendors meet these challenges? What types of broadband networks are they planning? Which technologies will they deploy? What areas are they targeting? What kinds of challenges are they facing? How do they plan to overcome these hurdles?
