The 5G Core controls user sessions, mobility, and authentication in a 5G network. It is fundamental to the operation of standalone (SA) 5G networks and integral to advanced 5G services. Gabriel leads mobile network research for Heavy Reading. He covers system architecture including RAN, core, and service-layer platforms. Key research topics include 5G, LTE Advanced, software-based mobile core, and the application of cloud technologies to mobile networking. Gabriel has more than 15 years’ experience as a mobile network analyst. Prior to joining Heavy Reading, he was Chief Analyst for Light Reading’s Insider research service; before that, he was editor of IP Wireline and Wireless Week at London's Euromoney Institutional Investor.
Dejan Leskaroski is the Head of Product Management at Mavenir and he leads product-related activities as part of the Mavenir Packet Compute Business Unit, including the Mavenir virtualized Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and the Mavenir fully containerized 5G Core (5GC).
Dejan has over 20 years of telecom experience delivering telco products and solutions for many of the leading Tier-1 operators in both the Core and Radio Access Networks, including 4G/5G Network Functions, NFV integration and Orchestration.
Shirin is Director of product marketing at the Oracle Communications Global Business Unit, with special focus on best in class technology for 5G, IoT and networks built for cloud.
She has over 15 years of telecommunications industry experience in marketing and sales enablement, customer program management and sales consulting with experience drawn from numerous strategic engagements with service providers and partners around the world.
Prior to Oracle, Shirin held positions with Acme Packet as customer program manager helping Tier 1 operators in the EMEA region. Preceding that she was working for the Ericsson’s global service delivery center in a systems integrator and sales consulting role.
Shirin holds an International MBA from the IE Business School, a Masters of Applied Sciences in telecommunications engineering and a Bachelor of electrical engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She is currently working and living in the Madrid, Spain.
Richard Lopez is Senior Strategic Architect for the Service Provider business at F5. With more than 25 years in Telecommunications, he has brought innovative products to market for both global companies as well as startups. Prior to F5, Richard was VP Strategy at Cerra, an early-stage data science startup. At Ciena, he was VP, Global Solutions Architecture where he drove the market introduction of the industry-leading Blue Planet Orchestration Platform. Lopez has had direct GTM experience as a software developer, software team manager, and product manager and was at Tellabs, Mahi Networks, and Applied Digital Access.
Richard has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and resides in Northern California.
Richard Band is the WW Head of Mobile Core and 5G for Communications & Media Solutions, Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
HPE Communications & Media Solutions (CMS) provides an innovative portfolio of telecom industry-specific software products, solutions and professional services for demanding Communications Service Providers (CSPs) globally.
Within the CMS portfolio, the Mobile Core and 5G segment covers HLR/HSS, Shared Data Layer, and 5G Control Plane Network Functions. Richard is responsible for the product strategy, product development and business results in Mobile Core and 5G.
Richard’s career with HPE spans 20 years. His previous roles include WW Network GTM Director, EMEA Domain Director, Vodafone Global Account Manager, Program Manager, Solution Architect and R&D Technical Leader.
Richard earned his Master’s Degree in Computer Science at Universiteit Twente and graduated with an MBA at HEC Paris.
He is married with 3 children and is based in France.
Lloyd Mphahlele, is currently GM, Transport in MTN Group Technology responsible for Transport Strategy across 21 markets in Africa and the Middle East. Lloyd has extensive experience in telecoms spanning over 23 years in both fixed and mobile networks.
Rafael joined Telefonica I+D in 1998 where he was involved in Radio Access, including network dimensioning and planning. During 2009-2011, he was Head of Photonic Networks and Fixed Access Groups, where he led innovation related to the development of optical networks. In 2011, he joined the Global Network Virtualization team, where he led first data plane virtualization initiatives in Telefonica. Currently, Rafael is leading technical Transport & IP team exploration activities in Telefonica CTIO unit including OpenFUSION initiative, which aims to create an ecosystem based on open, disaggregated and interoperable network elements, architectures, and interfaces.
