Offload Hyperscale DDoS Attacks to SmartNICs: Powerful and Agile Deployment for 5G Security
Date / Time: Thursday, July 30, 2020, 12:00 p.m. New York/ 5:00 p.m. London

As service providers shift to cloud/NFV architectures to roll out 5G and edge compute infrastructure, new generations of hyperscale DDoS threats will emerge. DDoS attacks are increasing in size, complexity and severity to further exploit new cloud-based technological shifts, and service providers demand virtual security solutions to offer equally flexible and robust defenses.

Leveraging Intel FPGA PAC N3000 and F5's extensive DDoS and FPGA expertise, F5's BIG-IP VE for SmartNICs solution is capable of withstanding DDoS attacks up to 300 times greater in magnitude than a comparable software-only solution, ensuring cloud networks are adequately protected against the next generation of DDoS threats, whether it's for ten or 150 FPGA units.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • How DDoS attacks might evolve in a 5G world
  • What SmartNICs are, and how they can be utilized across the network
  • How F5's BIG-IP VE for SmartNICs solution secures your 5G network against over 100 types of complex DDoS attacks while boosting DDoS performance by up to 300 times

Jim leads Heavy Reading’s research on the impact of NFV on the control plane and application layers at the core and edge. This includes the evolution path of SIP applications, unified communications (UC), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), session border controllers (SBCs), Diameter signaling controllers (DSCs), policy controllers and WebRTC. Jim is also focused on the network and subscriber impact of Big Data and Analytics. He authors Heavy Reading's NFV and SDN Market Trackers. Other areas of research coverage include Subscriber Data Management (SDM) and fixed-line TDM replacement. Jim joined Heavy Reading from Nortel Networks, where he tracked the VoIP and application server market landscape and was a key contributor to the development of Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards. Additional technical experience was gained with Bell Canada, where he performed IN and SS7 network planning, numbering administration, technical model forecast creation and definition of regulatory-based interconnection models. Jim is based in Ottawa, Canada.
