Virtualization and the cloud have redefined computing and are key elements in the transformation of the service edge. 5G deployment is driving changes in the service edge, ushering in dramatically more cell sites and delivering 10 times or more bandwidth per user. 5G also enables a broad range of new applications from IoT to smart cities to manufacturing over an increasingly converged network.
The cloud at the edge is a new revenue opportunity for MNOs. Low-latency applications must run closer to the customer to achieve the needed response times. Telcos can also provide a platform to run network functions as virtualized software to help keep costs down.

Clark provides actionable insight into service provider evolution, examining the challenges and opportunities facing network operators as they move towards 5G and IoT with an increasingly virtualized and cloud native infrastructure. Clark examines the solutions and technology reshaping the telco data center, technologies such as Edge Computing, Open Source, OpenStack, container networking, Network Orchestration, Data Center Interconnect, Software Defined Networks (SDN), and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).
Clark started her industry research career with the Yankee Group, which was acquired by 451 Research in 2013. She held the role of Sr. Vice President at Yankee Group. Prior to joining Yankee Group, Clark was Manager of Network Planning and Strategy for Wang Laboratories'corporate data network. She began her career at Wang with responsibility for the domestic and international roll-out of Wang's packet network, connecting more than 250 locations in 14 countries. Before joining Wang, she was a member of the IT research and development division of Commercial Union Insurance Companies.
Clark is a highly regarded speaker at industry seminars and conferences and is frequently cited by the commercial and trade press. She has been a guest lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management and is a member of the IEEE. She holds a B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College.
José Miguel is Sales CTO at Volta Networks. Prior to Volta, JM co-founded Promofarma.com, the leading consumer health and beauty e-commerce marketplace in Spain. Prior to Promofarma.com, he was one of the first members of the engineering team at RouteScience (acquired by Avaya) in Silicon Valley where he contributed to the creation of route optimization.
He has an Eng.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and a Telecommunications degree by UPC, Barcelona Tech. JM was a laCaixa fellow, a Balsells fellow and holds a portfolio of patents in networking technologies.
Hugh is Vice President of Marketing for Volta Networks. Hugh has more than 25 years in software, networking, and related technology businesses, ranging from start-ups to publicly traded companies. Most recently, he was Vice President of Marketing and Strategy for Kwicr (acquired by Instart Logic). He lead marketing teams at Avior Computing, NEI (NENG, acquired by Unicom), Celox Networks and (VNWK).
Hugh has an MFA from the University of Southern California and a BS from Linfield College.
Previous to his role at F5 in Product Management, Chris was as a Security Automation engineer at Comcast. Leveraging his nearly 20 years of application developing expertise, while at Comcast he developed a customer portal for Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) DDoS Service to fully provision all new DDoS enterprise, business and residential customers, still in use today.
Chris brings his deep knowledge of Security Reporting to F5, for building improvements to BIG-IQ, AFM and CGNAT, and helps teams around the global design and build features Service Providers rely on to protect their customers.
Chris has a BS in Computing and Security Technology, Cum Laude, from Drexel University.
Francois is a Senior Solutions Architect in the Red Hat’s Telco Technology Office and collaborates with telecom service providers and partners across EMEA. Passionate about security, Francois leads the NFV security domain and is the Red Hat’s technical interface to the National Cybersecurity Agency of France (ANSSI). Before Red Hat, he spent more than 15 years contributing to network evolution especially towards cloud platforms.
