Sterling Perrin, Principal Analyst – Optical Networking & Transport, Heavy Reading

Tom Strasser, Founder & Chief Technology Officer, Nistica

Chris Ellefsen, Advanced Engineering, Core Optical Network, Charter Communications

Matthew Mitchell, Director, Optical Network Engineering, Facebook

Disaggregation in networking started with layer 3 routing but has quickly moved to optical networks, including into the optical line system, where the open line system (OLS) is of increasing interest to webscale providers as well as traditional network operators. This webinar focuses on disaggregation in the line system, including the value of disaggregated ROADM architectures for all types of service providers. Underscoring the importance of disaggregation in optics, we will be joined by two guest speakers. Facebook Director of Optical Engineering Matthew Mitchell and Charter Director of Advanced Engineering Chris Ellefsen will share views from their respective companies.

Topics covered in this webinar will include:

  • Benefits of Open Line systems (separating transponders from the line system)
  • Disaggregated ROADMs and In-Line Amplifiers with SDN control
  • Leveraging optical switches in disaggregated ROADMs
  • Charter and Facebook's views on Open Line Systems
