The next industrial revolution, sometimes referred to as Industry 4.0, is already ongoing, fueled by technology advancements in big data, automation and cyber physical systems. To achieve their full potential, these new processes and operating models require high-performance connectivity. Ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) is a new set of 5G NR capabilities, expected for 3GPP Release 16, that can enable operators and enterprises to address a diverse range of high-performance industrial use-cases. This webinar will investigate 5G NR, including the support for private industrial networks and URLLC capabilities. Using the "factory of the future" concept as an example, it will show how 5G NR can help to transform industrial IoT by making it more dynamic, flexible and adaptable to market demand.

Gabriel Brown, Principal Analyst – Mobile Networks and 5G, Heavy Reading
Gabriel leads mobile network research for Heavy Reading. He covers system architecture including RAN, core, and service-layer platforms. Key research topics include 5G, LTE Advanced, software-based mobile core, and the application of cloud technologies to mobile networking. Gabriel has more than 15 years’ experience as a mobile network analyst. Prior to joining Heavy Reading, he was Chief Analyst for Light Reading’s Insider research service; before that, he was editor of IP Wireline and Wireless Week at London's Euromoney Institutional Investor.

Mehmet Yavuz, Vice President, Engineering, Qualcomm Technology
Mehmet Yavuz joined Qualcomm's Corporate Research and Development (CR&D) department in 2003 and his contributions include system design, development, standardization and implementation for projects including such as 1xEV-DO Rev-A, VoIP over wireless, UMTS, HSPA, LTE and 5G. From 2010 to 2016, Mehmet led the LTE small cells group and the 1000x initiative in Qualcomm Research, including areas such as UltraSON Self Organizing Networks, Neutral Host services, 3.5GHz US Citizens Broadband Radio Services (CBRS) and LTE in Unlicensed Bands. Many of these technologies are either commercially deployed or in the process of commercialization. Most recently, Mehmet has been leading the work on private Internet of Things (IoT) networks and industrial IoT applications with 4G LTE and 5G NR in Qualcomm Research Center. Prior to Qualcomm, during 1997 through 1999, Mehmet worked on signal processing and inverse problems at General Electric Global Research Center. From 1999 to 2003 he worked on many aspects of cellular system design as part of CDMA System Research and Development group at Nortel Networks. He has more than 150 issued patents with USPTO and received Qualcomm IP Excellence Award in 2013. He also received Qualcomm Research Distinguished Contributor Award for Project Leadership in 2014 and for Technical Contributions in 2009.

Jason Ellis, Director, Business Development, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies
Jason Ellis is responsible for 3G/4G/5G cellular communications for the connected car, including telematics, Cellular-V2X and the automotive aftermarket. He previously led efforts in Internet of Things/Machine-to-Machine connectivity, including smart energy and smart cities. Previously, he focused on non-cellular wireless communications encompassing Bluetooth, WiFi, Ultra Wideband and other emerging modem technologies. Ellis has spent more than 20 years helping to regulate, standardize and commercialize wireless technologies for multibillion dollar industries while working at both Fortune 100 companies and venture capital funded start-ups. Prior to joining Qualcomm in 2007, he was Director of Business Development and Marketing for UWB pioneer Staccato Communications. Previous experience includes leading business development for the General Atomics Advanced Wireless Group, working on wired/wireless architectures for Raytheon Systems and as an electrical engineer for the City of San Diego. He has also served on a number of coalitions and industry working groups.

Jim Misener, Senior Director, Technical Standards, Qualcomm Technologies
Jim Misener leads automotive standards activities for Qualcomm. In this role, he participates externally in many standards forums, including as immediate past Chair and current Vice Chair of the SAE DSRC Technical Committee and participation as US ISO TC204 expert and with IEEE 1609 and LTE technologies 3GPP. Recently, he was instrumental in founding and is on the board of the 5G Automotive Association, with other founding members Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel and Nokia. This year, Jim founded a new SAE standards committee, the SAE C-V2X Technical Committee. As part of his daily activities, he also provides broad internal consultation and support with automotive and transportation matters on emerging technologies, standards, deployment and spectrum issues. He was an early pioneer in vehicle-highway automation and vehicle safety communication at the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) at UC Berkeley, beginning in the mid 1990s. He has served as the PATH Executive Director, Executive Advisor to Booz Allen Hamilton and an independent consultant with clients ranging from Silicon Valley startups, the automotive industry and Federal and State government agencies.

Durga Prasad Malladi, Senior Vice President, Engineering, Qualcomm Technologies
Durga Prasad Malladi joined Qualcomm in 1998 as an engineer. Over the past 19 years, he has worked on 3G and 4G systems and was the Project Engineer of 4G LTE-Advanced in Qualcomm Research from 2008 until 2015, responsible for design, standardization, prototype implementation, pre-commercial operator trials and inter-operability tests with vendors. Currently, he oversees the 5G and 4G cellular projects in Qualcomm Research, spanning Mobile Broadband Communications, Millimeter Wave based Backhaul and Access systems, Shared Spectrum Access, Internet of Things (IoT), Mission Critical Services and Cellular Vehicular Communications (C-V2X). In addition, he heads the Systems Engineering department in Qualcomm Research. He is the recipient of Qualcomm's IP Excellence Award, Qualcomm Distinguished Contributor Award for Project Leadership and Upendra Patel Achievement Awards for Outstanding Contributions to HSPA and LTE.
