Optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) is a key metric of signal quality in DWDM networks. Over the years, the adoption of new technologies like reconfigurable optical add drop multiplexers (ROADM) and coherent transmission have rendered existing OSNR measurement methods obsolete. In this webinar, we will first review the importance of OSNR as a key performance indicator of system performance. We will then discuss the existing OSNR methods, and why they cannot be used on live coherent signals. We will then introduce a novel method to measure non-intrusively the OSNR of 100G+ coherent signals, EXFO’s in-service Pol-Mux OSNR method.

Sterling has more than 15 years' experience in telecommunications as an industry analyst and journalist. His coverage area at Heavy Reading is optical networking, including packet-optical transport. Jean-Sébastien Tassé has more than 13 years of experience in sales and marketing in the high-tech sector. He currently oversees the business strategy, roadmap and launch strategy of the optical spectrum analyzer and dispersion product lines. At EXFO, he is also Business Development Manager for the market segments of submarine networks and fronthaul/backhaul networks (optical products). He began his career as Sales Engineer for Gentec Electro-Optics, where he was responsible for direct and channel sales in specific regions in the Americas, Asia and Europe. As Business Development Manager for the Thin Film Research Laboratory at the École Polytechnique de Montréal/University of Montreal, he was instrumental in delivering revenue growth in analytical services for companies.

Jeff leads business operations for the communications industry in the Americas at Arago. He has held previous senior roles at Hewlett Packard Enterprise as lead of Communications Media and Entertainment vertical for Americas, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent. He has led the technology efforts for communications service providers and early-stage companies. He was also responsible for sales and operations in the communications equipment providers for product lines and services portfolios. Earlier in his career, he served in leadership roles at BellSouth and Cingular Wireless (now AT&T). At Cingular, he led Cingular Core Transport and Networking efforts. At BellSouth (now AT&T) he led the Broadband Internet Operations and Support organization, which included broadband tier two technical support, customer networking equipment business, broadband OSS and end-to-end process. Jeff chaired the Tech Titans Technology Association of North Texas, representing over 300 technology focused companies in the greater North Texas community. He also served on the North Texas Regional committee of the Texas Emerging Technology fund under Governor Rick Perry.
