VSNL Pump$ Up WiMax Plan$

12:45 PM -- Indian carrier Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) (NYSE: VSL) has confirmed a report that it plans to invest between $500 million and $600 million during the next three years on rolling out WiMax in India's major cities and towns.

That looks like good news for WiMax vendor Telsima Corp. It's already supplying VSNL and fellow Indian operator Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCom) with its broadband wireless equipment, and today unveiled a new line of sub-GHz WiMax equipment. (See Telsima Boasts WiMax Deals and Telsima Adds Sub-GHz WiMax.)

VSNL, which has already been dabbling with WiMax in Bangalore, isn't the only Indian carrier planning to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into WiMax -- national operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) also has grand plans. (See BSNL Plans $750M WiMax Splash.)
