CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., Camarillo, Calif., says its TimeStream ICs are intended to groom time-division-multiplexing signals and provide TDM traffic management for Sonet/SDH equipment with OC-3 to OC-192 optical interfaces. Product marketing manager Andrew Schmitt said manufacturers of Sonet/SDH cross-connect equipment can get to market faster by using TimeStream devices to build systems out of standard products rather than having to design ASICs.

"Next-generation Sonet/SDH switching and grooming equipment must support large numbers of high-speed fiber interfaces while providing switching functionality that extends from DS-3 to wavelength speeds," said Schmitt, adding that TimeStream provides a DS-3-level grooming capability typically not found in wavelength-grooming chipsets.
