MONTEREY, Calif. -- Phonoscope, an independent cable operator serving the Houston, Texas area, announced today that it will deploy on demand services using VOD In a Box™, a joint product developed by Comcast Media Center (CMC), a business unit of Comcast Cable, and C-COR Incorporated (NASDAQ:CCBL). Phonoscope will roll out on demand services to its subscribers this fall. VOD In a Box is a pre-integrated on demand solution designed to reduce the complexity, cost and time required to successfully deploy video on demand (VOD) in markets that serve 25,000 digital customers or fewer.

“VOD In a Box allows us to add a compelling package of on demand programming to our lineup of digital video services with an ROI that makes sense for a cable system of our size,” said Rhonda Druke, president of Phonoscope. “By having CMC and C-COR integrate all the components and simplify the VOD operations, we are able to drop in on demand and quickly launch this very important competitive offering to our customer base.”

The VOD In a Box solution covers all of the basic hardware and software elements required for a reliable and successful foray into and expansion of VOD services. Platform components include C-COR’s n5™ Compact (n5C) On Demand server and nABLE™ software management platform and offer up to 1,200 hours of premium and free program content that is aggregated and managed by Comcast Media Center. VOD In a Box includes complete content aggregation, receiving equipment, storage and streaming hardware, a full suite of management software and tools as well as professional services, installation and support.

“Phonoscope is a great example of the market we intend to serve with VOD In a Box,” said Gary Traver, COO of Comcast Media Center. “By combining C-COR’s on demand platform with our ability to aggregate, manage and distribute highly popular VOD content, we can provide a highly cost effective alternative to locally managed VOD solutions.”

“C-COR continues to expand its product lines that are designed to address the specific operational needs of all markets,” said Michael Pohl, president, Global Strategies, C-COR. "Phonoscope will now be able to bring its customers the same competitive services, like video on demand, as the large operators quickly and without straining their resources."
