IBC, the show focused on media creation management and delivery in all its many and varied forms, has kicked off in Amsterdam, and here's our pick of the latest company announcements so far. We'll add to the list as more catch our eye...

  • But first, a bit of mood music: During a keynote session Thursday morning, the CEO of Middle Eastern broadcaster OSN played down the threat to incumbents posed by OTT operators. See this story for more on the OTT/incumbent stand-off.

    • Synacor Inc. is using the show to demonstrate its carrier-grade OTT and TV Everywhere offerings in conjunction with its video partner, Siemens Convergence Creators. More details here.

    • Verimatrix Inc. is expanding its portfolio by buying the multiscreen video analytics business of Concurrent Computer Corp. (Nasdaq: CCUR) for an undisclosed price. Verimatrix says the deal will help accelerate the development of its Verimatrix Verspective Intelligence Center and enable it to tap into a bigger base of top tier pay-TV operators.     • Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH; NYSE: TCH) and Elemental Technologies Inc. (ETI) are seizing the IBC spotlight to demonstrate what they claim is the world's first live high-dynamic range (HDR) broadcast delivery system. HDR is considered a key complement to Ultra HD/4K video technology. More details here.

    • Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) and QuickPlay Media Inc. are teaming up to help IPTV operators upgrade their legacy platforms to next-gen TV services. The collaboration combines AlcaLu's Cloud DVR and Velocix Content Delivery Network (CDN) with Quickplay's virtual head-end and managed service model. More details here.

    • WiFi is getting a boost with Celeno Communications ' Quicksilver 802.11ac Wave 2 chip. The silicon is now integrated with Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC)'s Puma 6 platforms, offering technology specifically designed to deliver higher throughput in dense WiFi environments for new services like streaming 4K video. More details here.

    • Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) is offering a software-based video-on-demand upgrade to let service providers more easily offer streaming video over their existing systems. More details here.

    • Imagine Communications has a new open-API-based solution for programmatic TV ad buying. While acknowledging that the programmatic TV ad exchange business is still nascent, it's launching the Landmark xG Open solution as a way to let media companies experiment with automated, data-driven ad buying without vendor lock-in. VP Sarah Foss told Light Reading that because Imagine is offering an open API, the solution can work with any existing ad exchange. However, Imagine is working on direct integration with four leading exchanges in the near term, including two in North America, and two located internationally. More details here.

    • Liberty Global Inc. (Nasdaq: LBTY) and Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) are to use new open-source browser enhancements from Metrological in their RDK-based Horizon and X1 set-top box platforms. Additionally, Metrological will contribute the new browser software to the RDK. More details here.

    • Telstra Corp. Ltd. (ASX: TLS; NZK: TLS) has rebranded its recently acquired business, Globecast Australia, to Telstra Broadcast Services. One of the first deals reached under the Telstra Broadcast Services name has seen broadcaster Network Ten renew a multi-year contract for its global content delivery via fiber. More details here.

    • Eutelsat Communications S.A. has signed a multi-year contract with Canal+ Overseas, the Canal+ subsidiary that broadcasts to French overseas territories. The deal sees Canal+ Overseas leasing a 72MHz transponder on the Eutelsat 3B satellite that will be used to deliver a new range of channels. More details here.

    • Digital Multimedia Technology (DMT) is showing Deseo, its new device that, says the company, transforms a pay-T HD gateway set-top box into a secure Ultra HD/4K gateway. More details here.

    • Like its parent company, Comcast Wholesale is now plunging into the live video streaming market. The Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) unit is launching a live linear streaming management and delivery service for content providers. More details here.

    • Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) is expanding its video cloud portfolio with a new global solution for broadcast video delivery over the Internet. Dubbed Vyvx Internet Access, the service provides video transport for both full-time channel distribution and as-needed broadcasting. It's targeted at "major broadcasters, events, colleges and universities."

    • ROK Mobile plans to jump into the mobile video business, with some help from SeaChange International Inc. (Nasdaq: SEAC). ROK Corp. Ltd. plans to launch a mobile OTT service with movies and cult TV programs, starting early next year. More details here.
