Verizon CEO: We Expect iPhone 5 in the Fall

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ)'s new CEO, Lowell McAdam, says he now expects to see an Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5 arrive in the fall.

Talking on Verizon's second-quarter earnings call on Friday morning, McAdam said that he had initially expected a new iPhone this summer but now expects "a refresh ... sometime this fall." (See Verizon's Q2 Revenue Up 2.8% .)

Exactly when might the phone arrive? "You'll have to ask Apple that," McAdam says.

Verizon activated 2.3 million iPhones in the second quarter, with around 22 percent of these being new users. AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), meanwhile, said Thursday that it switched on 3.6 million iPhones in the quarter. (See AT&T Ups Capex to $20B to Develop 3G & LTE.)

Most industry observers don't expect to see 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the new iPhone. (See What'll Be Inside iPhone 5?) — Dan Jones, Site Editor, Light Reading Mobile
