NEW YORK -- Light Reading (www.lightreading.com), the market-leading online community for the global communications sector, has further strengthened its editorial team with the hire of experienced and respected telecom industry editor Jason Meyers, who has joined on a permanent basis as Senior Editor, Utility Communications/IoT with immediate effect.

East Lansing, Michigan-based Meyers, whose previous positions include multiple senior editorial roles at Telephony and Wireless Review and Executive Editor at Entrepreneur Magazine, will be responsible for tracking and reporting on developments in the Internet of Things (IoT), Gigabit Cities and emerging utilities communications sectors. He has already made his mark at Light Reading, having worked on the development of the Big Telecom Event (BTE – www.bigtelecomevent.com/chicago/), the highly-successful conference and expo that took place in Chicago in mid-June.

Meyers is pumped to be back on the telecom circuit just as the industry is undergoing massive change and entering a new era of baffling terminology. "I missed the acronyms more than anything," he said. "In the entrepreneurial world, I could talk to CEOs and CFOs about their IPOs, ROI, capex, and maybe even a little CAGR -- and yeah, a lot of those guys had SaaS -- but that was about their limit. I would watch as Light Reading reveled in SDN, OTT, NFV, SPIT, DOCSIS, LTE -- even VoLTE, for crying out loud -- and I just wanted to be a part of it all again. Now I'm really getting into IoT and GigE -- not to mention utility stuff like AMI, DA, AMR, and SCADA. It's like coming home," he added.
