SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Foundry Networks®, Inc.(Nasdaq:FDRY - news), a leading provider of high-performance enterprise andservice provider switching, routing and Layer 4 - 7 traffic managementsolutions, announced today that the University of Southern CaliforniaInformation Sciences Institute (USC-ISI) has deployed Foundry's IEEE 802.3aestandards-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution in its network backbone toenable ultra-high speed network-based applications and communications amongits research departments.USC-ISI is an off-campus research facility of the University of SouthernCalifornia's School of Engineering involved in a broad spectrum ofinformation science research and in the development of advanced computer andcommunication technologies. USC-ISI requires advanced networking solutionsto deliver a high-speed, high-performance computing environment for researchscientists to enable large-scale research collaboration and exploratorysystem development.Foundry's 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution plays a key supporting role in Dr.Carl Kesselman's Globus project for Grid Computing. The primary goal of theGlobus project is to enable new ways of using computers by allowingresources such as computers, storage, data and applications to be sharedacross collaborating organizations."With network reliability andavailability being crucial, we needed a high-performance 10-Gigabit Ethernetsolution with minimum latency to demonstrate the ability to build andeffectively manage large general-purpose, data-intensive computerclusters,'' said Richard Nelson, director of information processing atUSC-ISI. "With Foundry's 10-Gigabit Ethernet solution, we now offerresearch scientists an advanced, high-performance network computinginfrastructure which will enable the next-generation solution for Gridcomputing,'' continued Nelson.Foundry Networks Inc.
