PETALUMA, Calif. -- Turin Networks, a leading developer and supplier of multiservice transport platforms for telecommunications carriers, today announced the TraverseEdge(TM) 100 (TE-100), a compact next-generation SONET/SDH and Ethernet edge system designed specifically for carriers. It's the first product to economically push SONET/SDH to the edge while offering the redundancy and Ethernet features demanded by carriers.

The TE-100 allows efficient and cost-effective delivery of packet and TDM services over existing SONET/SDH networks in a variety of applications. The compact, two rack unit high design is optimized for deployments in metro access rings, or as an end-node in MTUs (multi-tenant units), outside plant environments, or in customer locations. The TE-100 was designed to work seamlessly with Turin Networks' industry leading metro transport network solution, the Traverse(TM) Multiservice Transport Platform.

The TE-100 is differentiated from competing platforms by going beyond supporting standard SONET/SDH facilities protection, to also provide optional equipment protection for the high-speed optical network interfaces. Hardware redundancy is a mandatory feature for many carriers that ensures network availability in the event of a device failure.

"With the introduction of the TE-100, Turin Networks is once again providing carriers with the tools they need to manage the convergence of Ethernet and SONET/SDH at the edge," said John Webley, president and CEO, Turin Networks. "Carriers have embraced aspects of both SONET/SDH and Ethernet, and the TE-100 offers the optimal balance of these technologies in a small form factor that offers carrier class capabilities for an affordable price."
