OTTAWA -- Tropic Networks Inc. extends its photonics leadership with a breakthrough technology, which delivers maximum manageability and flexibility to core regional and metro-area networks. This new technology has resulted in a United States Patent being awarded to Tropic Networks.

"This patent is just one in a set of patents applied for around Wavelength Tracker(TM) and other Tropic inventions to date," said Kevin Rankin, President and CEO, Tropic Networks Inc. "Our ability to invent, patent, and implement these types of unique technologies in our optical transport platform allows us to deliver a fully managed, highly flexible architecture for regional and metro-area networks."

The patent relates to the identification and management of each and every wavelength travelling throughout the optical network-a critical capability widely recognized as a fundamental building block for all regional-metro wavelength backbones going forward. Benefits include, unprecedented manageability, simplified operations, flatter networks, reduced need for field engineering, unmatched CAPEX and OPEX savings and maximum flexibility for changing network requirements.
