HONG KONG -- Tricom Asia announced today that it has received its EFTNS License to operate in Hong Kong SAR China.

The Hong Kong telecommunications regulator, Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) has awarded Tricom Asia an External Fixed Telecommunications Network Services (EFTNS) license, which grants Tricom the right to provide and operate international facilities-based telecommunications services via its undersea fiber-optic cable, “VNHKC” linking Hong Kong and Vietnam .

The EFTNS license is the second telecommunication license awarded to the Tricom Group of companies who will operate PoP:s in Europe, where a license is already granted to VNHKC Services AB, and in Japan and the US where the licenses are anticipated to be granted to VNHKC Services Corp. and VNHKC Services Inc. in the near future.

“The award of the EFTNS license brings us an important step closer to delivering much needed international bandwidth services between Vietnam, Hong Kong and the rest of the world together with our partner VNPT”, said Peter Landgren, CEO and president of Tricom Asia. “This represents the last significant milestone to enable Tricom to land and operate the VNKHC in Hong Kong, we are particularly proud to be the first carrier to be granted an EFTNS license since China Telecom received its license in 2005”.
