RESTON, Va. -- Transaction Network Services’ Telecom Services Division continues to differentiate itself with innovative solutions for telecom carriers with the introduction of TNS TransGate, a signaling gateway product that reduces capital and operating expenses for carriers migrating to next-generation architectures.

Two carriers have already successfully completed testing an SS7-over-IP version of TransGate and will soon be going into production. Applying SS7-over-IP enables these carriers to expand their networks and deliver new services without having to continually augment SS7 capacity with expensive circuit-based signaling links and ports.

Now commercially available, TNS TransGate serves as a bridge between the legacy circuit network and the all-packet network. TNS TransGate relieves carriers from the burden of having to maintain traditional SS7 capabilities in order to inter-operate with carriers deploying circuit-switched networks. TNS TransGate enables next-generation carriers to connect to TNS for traditional SS7 services using packet-based signaling protocols that are native to their internal networks, with TNS providing the signaling gateway function to interface with other carriers and the PSTN.

For service providers migrating to next generation architectures, TNS TransGate offers a cost-effective alternative for traditional SS7 services. TNS TransGate leverages TNS’ proprietary micro signaling platform which serves as the signaling gateway and allows network operators to connect to TNS via a privately managed IP network to carry SS7 traffic. This configuration enables next generation service providers to reduce the capital and operating expenses associated with managing a traditional SS7 network.

“Based on customer feedback, it has become apparent that many service providers are considering plans to migrate traditional SS7 out of their internal networks. TNS TransGate allows these service providers to outsource all of their requirements for traditional SS7 services using an IP interconnection to TNS,” said Barry Toser, Senior Vice President and General Manager, TNS Telecom Services Division. “We have considerable experience in this area as TNS has been running SS7 signaling associated with internal Point-of-Sale (POS) traffic over IP networks for the past few years. As the telecom industry migrates from circuit switched to IP networks, TNS will be there as a partner in the transition.”
