Time Warner Posts Strong Q4 Results

Although Carl Icahn may not agree, Time Warner's cable division is still going great guns. Unlike Comcast, Time Warner Cable racked up strong subscriber gains across the board in the fourth quarter, netting hefty amounts of high-speed data, VoIP, digital video and digital video recorder (DVR) customers. North America's second largest MSO picked up 265,000 cable modem subscribers, its fourth Q4 increase in three years. With the addition, the company has now added more than 200,000 broadband users for four consecutive quarters. Time Warner closed out the year with 4.8 million data subscribers, boosting its penetration rate to 25%. Time Warner's "Digital Phone" product also scored big again, enjoying its third sraight quarter of 200,000-plus subscriber gains. The MSO netted a record 246,000 VoIP customers in the quarter, lifting its total customer count to an industry-leading 1.1 million subscribers. On the video side, Time Warner added 199,000 digital cable subscribers, its biggest Q4 increase in three years. The company also signed up 219,000 DVR subscribers, its largest quarterly gain yet. Finally, it enlisted 34,000 basic cable subscribers, once again its highest fourth-quarter increase in three years.
