QUEBEC CITY -- EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) today announced the release of iSAM, an intelligent service activation methodology designed to bring speed and simplicity to testing Ethernet/IP services, as well as MEF-compliant services.

Through EtherSAM, EXFO pioneered the implementation of ITU-T Y.1564, which has become the industry standard for SLA validation. Now, building on its established expertise in service activation methodology, EXFO is once again leading the industry with the introduction of iSAM.

Based on the ITU-T Y.1564 and RFC 6349 standards, iSAM is a fully automated test application that allows for significantly simpler and more accurate testing of all Ethernet services from GigE to 100 GigE, as well as end-to-end validation of layer-2/-3 and TCP layer-4 services. iSAM uses a simple three-step approach to remove the complexity of validating and activating Ethernet services, thus reducing test times by a factor of 10 versus today’s typical test methodologies. This allows operators to drastically lower OPEX while accelerating time-to-revenue. Moreover, iSAM delivers repeatable and consistent testing processes, thereby eliminating human error and providing 100% first-time-right results.

With ever-increasing competition in the telecom industry, service providers need to turn up next generation Ethernet services more quickly to get to revenue faster, but without impacting the quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) of their end-customers. Conversely, field technicians need to rapidly learn and gain proficiency in a multitude of ever-evolving technologies to keep pace with a host of new testing requirements.
