Terayon Upgrades CherryPicker Platform

This week Terayon Communication Systems Inc. introduced enhancements to its flagship Terayon DM 6400 Network CherryPicker digital video processing platform. The DM 6400 supports digital video services by providing grooming, rate shaping, statistical multiplexing and digital ad insertion functions. Each DM 6400 supports up to 64 standard-definition MPEG-2 video streams. Terayon's new CherryPicker 4.0 software release adds "Distributed Chassis" functionality, enabling MSOs to intelligently manage video processing capabilities across installed CherryPicker devices, regardless of their physical location. Additionally, a new Master Control Management Console (MC2) simplifies the configuration, monitoring and management of multiple networked CherryPickers. Together, the solutions allow operators to manage their entire network of CherryPickers as a single, unified system. Until now, each CherryPicker device could only be managed through a separate Web interface. Finally, according to Mark Jeffrey, director of product marketing for Terayon's video solutions, the CherryPicker 4.0 software also improves platform reliability by supporting program, port and chassis-level redundancy.
