Terayon Adding MPEG-4/AVC Support to CherryPicker

Heading into the IBC 2005 conference in Amsterdam this week, Terayon Communication Systems announced plans to add support for MPEG-4/AVC on its DM 6400 Network CherryPicker digital video processing platform. Satellite, telco, cable and broadcast video providers are increasingly interested in moving from current MPEG-2 solutions to advanced digital video codecs like MPEG-4/AVC, which offer up to 50% greater bandwidth efficiency. Through a demo at IBC, Terayon says is will be the first vendor to show digital ad insertion and real-time splicing of MPEG-4/AVC video streams. Terayon plans to offer the new MPEG-4/AVC capabilities as a software upgrade to its current generation DM 6400 by the end of 2005.
