SHELTON, Ct. -- TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of high-speed Broadband, Switching, and Transport semiconductor solutions for voice, data and video communications, today announced that it has shipped its EtherPHASTä-48 Plus device to TELNET Redes Inteligentes for use in its ANYSAE cards. TELNET has a supplier agreement with Telefónica de España to provide the ANYSAE cards for Imagenio, a next generation multimedia broadband service.

Telefónica uses TELNET ANYSAE cards to transport two MPLS-over-Gigabit Ethernet streams to secondary nodes using the traditional Telefónica DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) STM-16 infrastructures. TranSwitch’s EtherPHAST-48 Plus provides GFP-F (a data protocol where information monitoring is based on frame units) encapsulation for high efficiency. Telefónica’s Imagenio project provides homes with fiber-based ultra-high bandwidth access to the Internet, as well as interactive TV services such as video on demand and videoconferencing. Customers, equipped with MPEG-2 set-top boxes, gain access to the services through an ADSL2+ connection.

“EtherPHAST-48 Plus is an extremely integrated and compact product that has enabled TELNET to reduce the time-to-market to only eight weeks,” said Francisco Javier Cortés, R&D manager of TELNET Redes Inteligentes. “The royalty-free driver supplied by TranSwitch works perfectly with uCLinux [embedded Linus/microcontroller project operating system] and simplifies all configuration and management operations.”

“With its ANYSAE cards, TELNET takes an advanced position with consolidated telecommunication operators to migrate their traditional DWDM SDH transport infrastructure to a new generation network capable of efficiently transporting LAN and SAN protocols,” said Dr. Javier Berrios, executive director of product and customer management for TranSwitch. “Carriers and end-users are seeking cost-effective ways to transport Ethernet and SAN data over existing SONET/SDH infrastructures. With products such as our EtherPHAST-48 Plus, TranSwitch is enabling OEMs to transport next generation services over legacy networks.”

The EtherPHAST-48 Plus device is part of the field proven EtherMap® and PHAST® product family. Key benefits include multi-port/multi-rate standards compliance, multi-encapsulation capability, and a high degree of bandwidth granularity, resulting in reduced platform cost, faster time-to-market (TTM), and greater revenue generation for OEMs and Service Providers.

EtherPHAST-48 Plus supports virtual concatenations with LCAS as well as standard and non-standard contiguous concatenations. A quad 19/77 MHz Telecom bus enables client port expansion and rapid implementation of multi-service designs. Client protocols include ESCON, Fibre Channel, FICON, DVB-ASI, Gigabit Ethernet, and TDM. Mappings include Transparent GFP, Framed GFP in Null and Linear modes, PPP/BCP, PPP/HDLC, transparent HDLC, and LAPS X.85 and X.86. Multiplexed dual Multi-protocol Packet Interfaces (MPI) feature a unique PDU Length Indicator (PLI) extension which makes possible PDU-independent transfer of packets in and out of EtherPHAST-48 Plus without adding buffer RAM to a design. A hardware-abstracting service-oriented API set enables OEMs to rapidly develop their application software.
