MUNICH -- T-Mobile International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom and one of the world's largest international mobile communications carriers, is currently upgrading its mobile network in Germany with the installation of the Tellabs® 3100 Voice- Quality Enhancement (VQE) system. A roll out into other T-Mobile countries is being considered according to the contract. T-Mobile customers making mobile-to-mobile and mobile-to-PSTN calls will soon benefit from a removal of echo and adjustment of speech levels within the German network, resulting in improved call quality. Research by ITU-T and ETSI has identified a relationship between the reduction of echo levels and the likelihood that length of calls will be extended, leading to revenue increases for carriers. Hence the improvements achieved with the Tellabs 3100 Voice- Quality Enhancement system can positively impact customer satisfaction and subsequently the operator's bottom line.

"Following our own research into the business case we chose Tellabs 3100 Voice-Quality Enhancement because it has demonstrated capabilities to improve call quality, such as automatic audio level adjustment and elimination of acoustic echo," said Andreas Hochscherff, responsible for RAN Design within TMO. "The support received from Tellabs, as well as previous positive experiences with Tellabs products such as the VQE in T-Mobile's US network and the Tellabs® 8100 managed access system in T-Mobile's UK network, also influenced our decision."

"Tellabs is committed to enabling our customers to maximize their return on investments," said Bill Burns, vice president of Tellabs Europe, Middle East and African region (EMEA). "Tellabs' and T-Mobile's research as well as independent studies confirm call quality influences the time a customer spends on the phone. Tellabs equipment has been designed to help carriers increase customer satisfaction and length of calls, thus driving revenue and reducing churn. From our relationships with the major wireless carriers, we're seeing a renewed focus on improving call quality; the contract with T-Mobile is indicative of Tellabs' ability to deliver the complete voice-quality enhancement solution that wireless carriers want."
