Brian J. Jackman, president, global systems and technology, and executive VP of Tellabs, plans to retire effective Sept. 1

LISLE, Ill. -- Brian J. Jackman, 60, president - global systems and technology and executive vice president of Tellabs, (Nasdaq: TLAB - news) announced today that he plans to retire effective Sept. 1. Since 1998, Jackman has led all Tellabs product divisions worldwide, including optical networking, broadband access and voice-quality enhancement. The leaders of those divisions will report directly to Richard C. Notebaert, president and chief executive officer. Jackman joined Tellabs in 1982 as director of sales and marketing from IBM, where he held various sales and marketing positions. In 1988, he was named senior vice president and general manager of Tellabs' Data Communications Division. He was promoted to executive vice president-business operations in 1990, became president of Tellabs Operations Inc. in 1993, and was named to his current positions in 1998. "Brian Jackman has been as responsible as anyone for the success Tellabs has achieved over the past 15 or so years. He has been a major contributor to both the company's strategic direction and the execution of that strategy," said Michael J. Birck, Tellabs chairman and company founder. "And Brian has been a close friend and confidant since he joined Tellabs a long time ago.
