OTTAWA -- Optiwave Corporation, the leading provider of photonic design automation tools, today announced OptiFDTD 5.0, a major upgrade to the most advanced Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) simulation tool on the market. OptiFDTD 5.0 boasts an extensive set of new features that allow users to run technically advanced simulations, including capabilities to simulate noble metals.

OptiFDTD 5.0 delivers a comprehensive toolset that helps users meet their simulation needs in a dynamic research environment. The improved simulation engine, which uses the Plane Wave Expansion (PWE) method to analyze 1D, 2D and 3D photonic crystals including defects, is another element which furthers Optiwave from the competition. Additional features in OptiFDTD 5.0 include support for batch processing, a stand alone three-dimensional mode solver, and OWA (Optical Waveguide Analyzer) converter.
