Vietnam Power Telecom chooses Lucent for its phase II CDMA450 network expansion project
June 14, 2005
SINGAPORE -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that Vietnam Power Telecom (VP Telecom) has selected Lucent for its phase II CDMA450 network expansion project. Lucent and VP Telecom have already completed the deployment of an advanced wireless network to provide voice and high-speed data services based on CDMA450 technology -- Lucent's CDMA2000(R) 1X solution for the 450 MHz spectrum band -- in the northern provinces of Vietnam.
Under the new agreement, Lucent will supply VP Telecom with equipment and services to provide coverage for most provinces in northern Vietnam. The network will provide access to high-quality voice and high-speed data services at speeds of up to 153 kilobits per second to both consumers and business customers. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS), a leading network integrator, will provide engineering, installation, testing, optimization, program management and training support for the project.
Lucent, the first to deliver CDMA450 solutions globally, has deployed commercial networks in 450 MHz spectrum for Delta Telecom and Moscow Cellular Communications -- both part of the Sky Link initiative in Russia -- Zapp in Romania and Uzbek Telecom in Uzbekistan, and is conducting numerous CDMA450 trials with customers around the world.
"We look forward to continuing to partner with VP Telecom as we expand its world-class wireless voice and data network to support the fast-growing telecommunications demand in both rural and urban areas of Vietnam," said Bart Vogel, president, Lucent Technologies Asia Pacific.
