WILMINGTON, Del. and WILMINGTON, Mass. -- DuPont Photonics Technologies, a provider of practical integrated optical components and a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont, today announced that its iVOATM family of integrated variable optical attenuators (VOA) has successfully completed all reliability tests based on Telcordia GR-1221-CORE and GR-1209-CORE guidelines. The iVOATM has met or exceeded all relevant Telcordia standards.

"We are extremely pleased with the VOA performance achieved during these Telcordia tests," said Dr. Louay Eldada, chief technology officer and vice president of engineering at DuPont Photonics. "The iVOATM exceeds the Telcordia standard by a big margin in all the tests including mechanical vibration and shock, thermal cycling and shock, and operation at high temperature and humidity levels. These results, together with the results from our extreme temperature, optical power and electrical power tests, clearly demonstrate the robustness of our design and the reliability of our products."

Based on DuPont's proven planar lightwave circuit (PLC) platform the iVOATM provides the most cost effective VOA solutions for power balancing, power control and dynamic gain equalization. The iVOATM family includes both normally transparent and normally dark attenuators of up to 40 channels. DuPont's VOA operates across the C and L bands with low insertion loss, low polarization dependent loss (PDL), low wavelength dependent loss (WDL), low temperature dependent loss (TDL), low power consumption, high dynamic range, and simple electronic control. In addition, DuPont's VOA's have no moving parts and are stable to mechanical vibration and shock. The iVOATM products are generally available now.
