SOUTHAMPTON, U.K. -- TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group (NASDAQ:ERIC), today announced that it will be unveiling an end-to-end head-end and distribution solution for next-generation digital terrestrial television (DTT) on Booth 1.D61 at IBC 2008. With digital switchover deadlines to meet across Europe, growing consumer and industry pressure for HDTV over DTT, and standardization work well underway for DVB-T2, TANDBERG Television will be outlining an advanced architecture that harnesses the benefits of IP video from encoder to transmitter site.

TANDBERG Television is demonstrating the latest generation MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoding for SD and HD television, IP statistical multiplexing and IP streaming as part of its iSIS 8000 IP head-end solution for DTT. Confirming its ability to help service operators and content providers to reach consumers across ‘any platform, to any device™’, the company will show how DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-H video streams can be processed in the same head-end, and highlight the efficiencies of using IP transport for all current and future over-the-air broadcast services. TANDBERG Television receiver/decoders, transport stream processing, nCompass management system, and Ericsson point-to-point microwave products complete the next-generation DTT offering.

“Digital terrestrial television is of utmost importance to broadcasters, regulators and consumers and we expect that most markets will increasingly focus on MPEG-4 AVC SD deployments with a view to expand and upgrade towards HDTV. Many European countries have yet to deploy DTT services to enable a goal of digital switchover by 2012, so we see strong drivers for proven, integrated solutions, backed by the strongest pedigree in all markets of DTT,” comments Simon Frost, Business Development Director at TANDBERG Television. “In Europe, broadcasters desiring HDTV deployments are focusing on a new generation of DTT technology provided within the latest DVB-T2 standard.DVB-T2 products, and most importantly set top box silicon, should reach the market by late 2009/early 2010 but to fulfill the promise of next-generation DTT, Broadcast Network Operators need to be ready to deliver more video, in more formats, and in the most efficient way possible.”
