Synchronoss Promotes X-Play

Forget about triple-play and quad-play offerings. Synchronoss Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: SNCR) is focusing on the "X-Play."

Synchronoss, a Bridgewater, N.J. firm that supplies electronic order management solutions to both cable operators and phone companies, is counting on new converged services to generate strong growth for its "ActivationNow" software over the next couple of years. In particular, the firm is counting on the cable industry's deployment of wireless phone, data, and video services.

"We are very optimistic about convergence," says Omar Tellez, executive VP of marketing for Synchronoss. "2007 is the year of the quad play."

In a definite coup, Synchronoss recently won the rights to provide order management, activation, and provisioning for Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC)'s new Mobile Access product across the U.S. The firm is working with both Time Warner and its joint venture partner Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) to integrate the companies' ordering, provisioning, and billing systems for mobile subscribers.

So far, Time Warner has launched its new wireless access product in three markets -- Austin, Raleigh, and Cincinnati. Plans call for expanding deployment to most, if not all, of the MSO's markets by the end of the year.

"We will use Synchronoss in all our markets," says Mike Roudi, VP of wireless services for Time Warner Cable. "We're using them like a front end."

Tellez said Synchronoss, which went public last June, is also talking to Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) and Cox Communications Inc. about providing its transaction management software to them. With Time Warner already lined up, the firm clearly hopes to land all four of the large MSOs participating in the joint wireless venture with Sprint.

"We'll be building the integration with Sprint," Tellez says. "It would make sense for the other JV members to use us."
