CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Sycamore Networks (NASDAQ: SCMR - news), a leader in intelligent optical networking, today announced that its SN 8000 Metro Core intelligent optical transport system (MC) has been selected by Tata Power Companies Limited (TPCL) to build out a metro network in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. Also as part of the agreement, Tejas Networks, based in Bangalore, India, has been selected to provide network design, installation and customer support services. Tata Power plans to use Sycamore's SN 8000 MC, which leverages the capacity creation capabilities of DWDM technology and innovative networking software, to build India's first intelligent optical network. The software-centric architecture of the SN 8000 MC will enable Tata Power to build a metro network backbone from which they will offer high-speed services to support the bandwidth needs of Mumbai's high growth industries.
