Swisscom Broadcast bids for majority stake in radio and TV broadcasting company Antenna Hungária

BERN, Switzerland -- Swisscom Broadcast Ltd is participating in the bid for the majority stake in Antenna Hungária Rt, currently held by the Hungarian government's holding company. Today the fully-owned subsidiary of Switzerland's No. 1 telecoms provider submitted a binding offer in connection with the Hungarian company"s ongoing privatisation process. Antenna Hungária Rt is active in the fields of radio and television broadcasting and telecommunications. In 2004, the company"s 970-strong workforce posted an operating profit of CHF 6.2 million on revenues of around CHF 162 million. Swisscom is not releasing details regarding the size of bid or the content of the offer at the present time.

Swisscom Broadcast is looking to grow through innovations in its core business and through acquisitions abroad. By making commitments abroad, the Swisscom Group aims to generate sustained growth in value.

Antenna Hungária Rt is currently well positioned in the analogue radio and TV broadcasting market and is thus ideally placed to play a pivotal role in Hungary's migration to digital broadcasting. Swisscom Broadcast's extensive know-how in this field could quickly be brought to bear following the acquisition. Digitisation of broadcasting offers growth opportunities for Swisscom Broadcast both in Switzerland and abroad.
