Supercomm 2009 Delayed Until October

Supercomm, the telecom industry's largest catchall tradeshow, will take place Wednesday, October 21, 2009 through Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center, Ron Mathews, the show's new event director told Light Reading today.

The show previously was set for June 8 through June 11, 2009.

Mathews says the date change will help the industry better assess where the economy's going, and how big an impact the $7 billion in Recovery Act funds will have on the show's vendor exhibitors and their service provider customers.

"As broadband infrastructure stands to be a critical recipient of the economic stimulus package that we hear about every day in the news, we anticipate accelerated growth in our industry," Mathews says. "We really want to take advantage of those opportunities that are offered to our industry, and that [date change] allows us to do it."

United States Telecom Association (USTelecom) and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) are still the owners of the Supercomm show, but this year the management of the show is being handled by Expocomm Events LLC, a joint venture between E.J. Krause & Associates Inc. and Reed Exhibitions.

Light Reading will have more reporting and commentary on the tradeshow's date change and evolution very soon.

re: Supercomm 2009 Delayed Until October I think you will need to wait until the A's move to Cisco Field in Santa Clara before you'll be sitting in postseason seats, bucko... when the Cubs pick up a disgruntled Manny Ramirez in July you will be buying your dreadlocks "C" hat along with the rest of the bandwagoners...

Start planning those Wrigley Field parties now!

re: Supercomm 2009 Delayed Until October I'm sure the equipment vendors that display at both Supercomm and SCTE Cable-Tec Expo will be happy to have these two shows one week from each other!-á Will keep the vendor trade show managers very stressed and busy!

re: Supercomm 2009 Delayed Until October What a brilliant piece of PR spin - -áthe date change is so they can better gauge the impact of the economic stimulus package?-á How about because, with less than 3 months till their June event, they had less than half the number of exhibitors committed than they did at last year's show?

So Mathews says the date change will help the industry better assess where the economy's going, BS.-á Supercomm lacks in focus, support and most very likely attendence.-á Lets just call it the way it is.-á Supercomm is over for good.-á Why have the show If you miss your spring/summer date.?

Most of the telcos have seen Supercomm as the spring/summer show and TelcoTV as the fall show. -á

-áBy the way, the Cubs suck, i'd rather go to Florida and hang in the sun at Telco TV and my understanding is that TelcoTV is already about 70% sold out.

-áI am going where buyers are.

And there are probably a bunch of engineers jumping up and down now that they don't have to jump through hoops trying to make the deadline for the dog and pony show.
