Study Finds Strong Interest in Broadband Upgrades

Who says consumer interest in broadband is waning? Not the Diffusion Group, which, in a new study, found that slightly more than half of U.S. dialup households are at least somewhat interested in moving up to broadband. The new survey revealed that 14.7% of dialup users say they "definitely will upgrade" to broadband, 15.9% consider themselves "moderately likely" to upgrade and 21.3% think they are "somewhat likely" to upgrade. That adds up to a total of about 52%. The Diffusion Group acknowledges that such consumer interest doesn't necessarily translate into actual purchases. Nevertheless, the consulting group predicts that the number of U.S. broadband homes will rise from 34 million at the close of 2004 to 41.7 million at the end of this year.
