Sprint's New Pearl
Despite likely being the device that was originally codenamed the "Pearl 2," the 8130 is an incremental step in RIM's consumer ambitions. (See Handset Cavalcade.) Compared to its older GSM siblings, the new Pearl gets a better camera, faster networking (thanks to the EV-DO connectivity), and GPS location tracking.
Nonetheless, the $199 Pearl 8130 will represent yet more competition in the sub-$200 smartphone in the U.S. Sprint is also adding a new $199 Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Q to its line-up for the holiday season.
