Sprint Reportedly Planning New WiMax Devices

5:25 PM -- The print edition of Barrons is reporting that a turnaround for Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) in 2010 could -- in part -- be powered by its services on Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR)'s mobile WiMax network.

In particular, Barrons is suggesting that Sprint will capitalize on the so-called "4G" network by introducing more WiMax devices next year. So far, the operator has largely been highlighting its dualmode EV-DO/WiMax card.

I would expect that a WiMax netbook could be among the fresh offerings. That seems to be the most obvious missing piece from Sprint's initial Wimax offerings. For sure, it's not as sexy as a smartphone, but it's probably more suited to the nomadic model that Sprint has to support with WiMax islands in a sea of EV-DO.
