Where's Matty?

12:50 PM -- When Matt Bross last year left BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) and subsequently joined Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , it looked like the ideal opportunity for the Chinese vendor to raise its profile in North America and make a noise about having a high-profile carrier executive, with plenty of real-world operator experience, on its team. (See Matt Bross Joins Huawei as CTO and Bross Quits as BT's CTO.)

Since then, though, Bross has kept a relatively low profile -- both outside and inside the company, it would seem.

His external profile is being kept in check by the vendor, which has just declined a request from Light Reading for an interview with Bross. We wanted to get his take on the latest developments in the carrier Ethernet, packet optical, and Web services sectors, all areas of interest for Bross during his BT tenure.

He hasn't been mothballed, though, as he's due to speak this week at the annual Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) CQR (Communications Quality and Reliability) International Workshop in Vancouver.

Strangely, though, he doesn't appear to be a big name within his employer's four walls. One visitor to Huawei's recent global three-day industry analyst event in Shenzhen was surprised to see that Bross wasn't a presenter, and noted that the majority of attending Huawei executives either didn't know who he was, or knew him only from his time at BT.

So what's the deal with Bross these days? Has anyone seen him in action, or spoken with him?

Details of all sightings/encounters gratefully received on the message board below.

I saw him walking the floor at CTIA in March. No entourage with him.

Thanks for playing 'Where's Mattie?'

Was he sporting a standout necktie? He has a large collection of colorful silk Italian ties, and I wouldn't like to think he has stopped wearing them.
