July M&A Madness! Spirent, SPIT Vendors Lead the Way

The second half of the year has started with an acquisitions boom, with six M&A deals announced within the first two days of July by leading Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT), components and wireless industry names such as Spirent, VeEx, Nokia, EZchip, and CommScope.

The test and measurement sector is leading the way, but the deals also include the mobile small cell sector and confirmation of an analytics acquisition first highlighted by Light Reading last month.

Here's a rundown of the deals:

Spirent to buy Radvision unit for $25 million
Not averse to inorganic growth, test system specialist Spirent Communications plc has opened its wallet once more for the purchase of Radvision's Tel Aviv, Israel-based Technology Business Unit, the part of Radvision that comprises a "complete development and test suite for Voice and Video over IP communications, including Voice over LTE (VoLTE)," notes Spirent. Earlier this year, Spirent acquired customer experience management system specialist DAX for $37 million. (See Spirent Spends $25M on Radvision VoLTE Unit and Spirent Buys CEM Specialist.)

VeEx acquires European test duo
Telecom and cable test system specialist VeEX Inc. has acquired Belarus-based Optixsoft, which has developed optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) capabilities and cloud-based test management tools, and Lithuanian firm Agizer, another optical test system specialist. NetBoss confirms analytics M&A
NetBoss Technologies Inc. has confirmed the analytics acquisition that was the subject of speculation at the TM Forum Live! Event last month. It has acquired the Business Analytics unit of Ventraq Inc. , so gaining analytics tools, intellectual property and customers. EZchip to buy Tilera
Ethernet chip specialist EZchip Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: EZCH) has struck a $130 million deal to acquire multi-core CPU vendor Tilera as part of its strategy to expand into the data center and "white box" components market. (See EZchip Strikes $130M Deal to Buy Tilera.)

Nokia snags SAC Wireless
Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK), relishing its new-found identity as a network technology and services-driven business, is beefing up its small cell services capabilities in the US with the acquisition of SAC Wireless for an undisclosed sum. CommScope snaps up UK small cell player
Wireless, cable and fixed infrastructure provider CommScope Inc. , which is pushing hard in the indoor small cell market, has added to its range of passive wireless assets with the purchase of two units of British business Alifabs, which specializes in site acquisition, enabling power supplies and providing a broader range of tower services and capabilities.
