Huawei Ups Its Security Charm Offensive

10:00 AM -- Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has published a white paper, Cyber Security Perspectives: 21st century technology and security -- a difficult marriage, to set out the challenges faced by us all in these modern times, and to deny any wrongdoing in terms of intellectual property theft or security breaches, a position the company is increasingly keen to articulate given the increasing weight of speculation about its activities and intentions. (See Huawei Denied German Bid, Huawei Ban Row Escalates, More Security Woes for Huawei and Huawei's Open Letter to the US.)

Robert Clark, a regular contributor to Light Reading, has written an excellent blog following the launch of the paper. I'd encourage everyone to read his article, Huawei makes its case on security.

You can download the white paper here.

And here's some background on Huawei's international challenges, its strategy and its increasing importance:

re: Huawei Ups Its Security Charm Offensive

I read the blog and have to say that its a pointless set of drivel.

Pointing out that Cisco, Alu and all the big guns manufacture in china is like saying that the sea has water & salt in it. It so obvious & blatant that its not even worthy of mention or even a label such as rhetoric.

He even claims that chinese intelligence services created the huawei links to the government for political purposes! lmao!!!  That's brilliant! Absolutely priceless...

So in a country under single party rule, Huawei is a independent company...?

What makes it even more hilarious, is that he posts they are in it for "the money" - I always suspected that! It explains why Huawei gives away networks for "free"? Its  why Huawei took out enormous bank loans at special rates? Its all for the money....

You disgrace this board, by pointing to what amounts to diarrehao.

If I come across as partisan then so be it.

How do you earn your money?  From the blog or from other sources?

Some clarity on who funds you would be useful.

Ah, such passionate intensity.

Sure, it's stating the obvious to point out that AlcaLu and otjher vendors also manufacture in China, yet the implications are surely equally obvious, ie, the China brand shouldn't exclusively taint Chinese firms.

Huawei may have given away equipment but this is classic loss-leading tactic is no sign of a plot to steal secrets.

Huawei didn't "take out enormous bank loans." Chinese state banks offer low interest loans to Huawei customers. This may be unfair competition, and a case for the WTO, but again, no plot. As my blog pointed out, in Huawei's early years it received no backing at all.

The suggestion that Huawei chairwoman Mme Sun was placed in the company by state intelligence was implicitly made by another blog, which I too was ridiculing.

re: Huawei Ups Its Security Charm Offensive

In the South East Asian and South Asian region, Huawei has an excellent service record. They deliver things on time and in excellence at a reasonable price. Most of the time they are flexible. What is more? Most of the Asian operators are not bothered about the politically motivated smear campaigns and self imposed unilateral trade barriers. Huawei will take more courage to introduce more competitive products to outperform the competitors who are well protected by their respective Governments.
