Policy control systems are part of an operator's Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT) arsenal. The systems enable operators to set parameters on network usage so that they can offer tiered or personalized mobile data services. With policy control, operators have another tool to help them monetize their infrastructure investments. The vendor also revealed that US regional operator Cellcom Inc. is its newest customer for the EPC 500 system, which provides subscriber and device data management, policy control, and interworking with the Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Cellcom plans to use the system in its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based femtocell deployment as well as for its future LTE rollout.(See Cellcom, MetroPCS Pick Bridgewater.)
