Procera Targets Tier 1s
Procera's PacketLogic PL10000 is available in a 5U chassis and a 12U chassis and can scale up to 80 Gbit/s (40 Gbit/s full-duplex), making it the highest-scale DPI box on the market.
"Capacity is a compelling reason to use PacketLogic," says Jon Linden, Procera's vice president of product management. But the real selling point is accuracy, he says. "We get as close to 100 percent as you can get, with close to zero false positives. Accuracy is the strongest value proposition we have."
Procera claims its PacketLogic devices provide approximately 96 percent accuracy in their identification of traffic traveling across service provider networks, which the company says is unmatched in the industry.
In part, that's due to the way PacketLogic devices work together in the network. Because Procera's products are all based on the same software, Linden says they can be placed anywhere in the network.
Running the same code base also allows PacketLogic to provide flow and queue synchronization throughout multiple devices. Flow synchronization allows the exchange of flow information across devices with a minimum of overhead, allowing bi-directional identification of flows even in asymmetric traffic. Queue synchronization allows the devices to synchronize rules and enforce them across the entire network without having to separately update each device.
The PL10000 product is commercially available now, and Procera says it already has four paying customers for the product. Two of those customers have deployed the 12U version, while the other two are using the 5U version. Com Hem AB , Scandinavia's largest cable operator, is the first publicly announced customer of the product.
