Packet inspection/traffic management

Blade, ipoque Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- BLADE Network Technologies, Inc., the industry leader in network virtualization and high-performance solutions for servers and storage, and ipoque, Europe's leading provider of traffic management solutions for Internet service providers, announced that they have teamed up to deliver a NEBS-compliant deep packet inspection and bandwidth management application appliance platform. The blade-based solution runs on IBM BladeCenter in high-traffic ISP and carrier environments that need to ensure Quality of Service (QoS) for bandwidth-intensive quadruple-play networks consisting of data, voice, multimedia and video traffic.

The Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) application appliance platform based on IBM BladeCenter HT equipped with BLADE's Nortel 10Gb Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter and ipoque's PRX Traffic Manager provides deep packet inspection and powerful bandwidth management capabilities for up to six 10-GbE links and up to 60 Gigabits and 4.2 million packets per second. This IBM BladeCenter-powered platform is an ideal solution for environments that need to effectively monitor, shape and optimize network applications. These include the most critical and hard-to-detect protocols used for peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P), instant messaging (IM), Voice over IP (VoIP), tunneling and media streaming, but also many legacy applications . For ISP and carrier's COTS deployments on IBM BladeCenter HT, BLADE's Nortel 10Gb Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter are NEBS compliant.

ipoque's PRX Traffic Manager supports up to six BLADE 10 Gigabit Ethernet links. The PRX Traffic Manager works as a transparent bridge and can be seamlessly integrated into existing networks. The extensive statistical functions give network operators detailed insight into the operations of their network.

"We are pleased to work with ipoque to help ensure carrier-grade availability and scalability for 10 Gigabit Ethernet data center network traffic on an IBM BladeCenter-powered application appliance platform," said Mark Hudson, Chief Marketing Officer, BLADE Network Technologies. "ipoque's PRX-10G can process 12 million active users with more than 240 million simultaneous connections, which is ample for even the highest-traffic blade-based ISP and carrier environments."
