Services Head Quits AlcaLu

One of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU)'s most senior executives, president of the Services Business, John Meyer, has quit the telecom giant to become CEO and president of enterprise data management firm Acxiom Corp. (Nasdaq: ACXM). Meyer, who headed up Lucent's services division prior to the merger with Alcatel, was a member of AlcaLu's newly formed, seven-strong senior management committee that reports directly to CEO Pat Russo. (See AlcaLu Names New CFO and Lucent Names Services President.)

Meyer is the latest in a string of senior AlcaLu executives to have left the company since it was formed in November 2006. (See Russo Shakes Up AlcaLu's Top Team and Quigley, D'Amelio out at AlcaLu.)

His place has been taken, with immediate effect, by Andy Williams, one of Meyer's senior team. Williams, who was head of Lucent's European business prior to the Alcatel merger, currently heads up the Services Business division's Network Operations unit.

Williams joined Lucent in 2005, having previously held senior positions at IBM Global Services , where he worked for 25 years.

The Services Business unit, which recently revamped its image and identified five key areas of focus, was expected to generate about €4 billion ($5.9 billion) in revenues in 2007, Meyer said during a recent press briefing. (See AlcaLu: The Network Integrator.)

Williams has some other good news to go with his promotion -- AlcaLu has just confirmed a significant new outsourced network services contract with Brasil Telecom Participações SA (NYSE: BRP), where the vendor has reportedly ousted its two main vendor services rivals, Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) and Nokia Networks . re: Services Head Quits AlcaLu In a company like Lucent it doesn't take much to be a "gem"... a piece of corn in a pile of shit could be considered a "gem" too.

re: Services Head Quits AlcaLu I thought the Lucent Services Business that Meyer built was one of the gems Lucent brought to the merger. That Acatel services business needed the boost. What happened?
