LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video

Who else but Light Reading can put together all the essential ingredients of a proper corporate video?

Light Reading's 2005 corporate video has it all: acquisition jokes, gloating, strip club one-liners, two charming puppets, and a song you absolutely won't be able to block out, no matter how good your therapist.

This high-quality production debuted in a longer, more copyright-abusive form, at The Light Reading 2005 Telecom Investment Conference last week.

Our other video and news highlights from that week are as follows:

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video
Now that it all clear, 2 questions still linger:

(1) What's with the Chablis? I can't recall it featuring prominently in LR events. Or do the British call any white wine "chablis", just like red wine is (or was?) "claret"? Or is the cheap chablis comment a reference to a more frugal CMP corporate culture, imposing a traumatic change on lavish LR spending culture? Hold the '94 Chateau Mouton... :-)

(2) Weren't we expecting something a bit edgier than "Amarillo" from LR? Smash Mouth's "All star", or perhaps even hip hop, something like Snoop's "gin and juice" (laid back, with my mind on my money and my money on my mind)?

(3) Should William Hung be afraid of Saunders' move into entertainment?

In case you wonder, I am holed up in the house with a major league cold, and bored to death, some way to start to holidays...

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video 1) Humorous, self-indugent, viral.

2) Light Reading giving Patty a Lightee and basically conceding all my arguments of what LU was doing right for the past 2 years.

2005 is a banner year, I end up winning our 3 year running LU competence argument and you end up with the lottery cash...

I'm happy.

Merry Christmas to you.

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video blueshoes - you really have gone a bit off the deep on this one. LR is a media-news company (or rather a division of a company, or whatever). Like most of them, they try to mix the dry info content with some comedic relief or off-topic stuff. If you want dry facts, then go read IEEE comm magazines or similar print media.

Think of it as the Today Show of telecom news, not the McNeil Lehrer Report. Guess which one is more successful?

BTW, you are not their customer. I mean none of us are. The advertisers are their customers. We're users. If users stop paying attention, their customers will stop paying. So it's in LR's interest to appeal to the masses of users, so long as the masses represent their customer's target audience.

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video The closest thing we have to a poll is this here message board, where you are the solitary dissenting voice....

Panda - as they say - "bollocks".

1. you do conduct polls, varied in subject.

2. if you take the board as a representative sample, (which by your post I assume you have done) you have had just 5 people comment on it, of which I am one. Assuming the other 4 were in favour, that is still 20 percent against. (As I remember, however, even the four who liked it didn't actually mention what they got for the 5 mins they spent on it, except an excuse to look at a gooky video, of which there are already thousands on the web anyway).

I forget the numbers, but assuming LR has about 1 million visitors per month, (probably high) that is still 200k people that not only found it (and other like it) annoying, but got nothing for their time.

In short, you can do your job or not do it, but don't pretend to do it. Its annoying me, and by your own "sample", 20 percent of your readers.

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video scott, I don't feel like a downer, though no doubt there are plenty of people who would disagree. However, I doubt if anybody who actually works for a living comes to LR just to join a big virtual party. They would come for industry insights, useful threads, decent interviews, and breaking news. And what do you give us? Steve Saunders dancing, and Pat Russo collecting an award. Way to go! Why bother? You claim to have millions of visitors, and how many of them are really likely to get their rocks off watching Mr. S (with or without facial hair) dancing with a bunch of people who just happen to have boobs?

Get real - he / LR may be rich now, but the video is still insulting to most of your viewers, and a gratuitous waste of time. Why not do a decent wrap up documentary of the year? Is it so difficult? You evidently have the cameras, you evidently have the contacts, so why not use both?

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video panda

maybe you would like to take a poll as to how many of your viewers actually thought it was a decent watch as opposed to something that you **could** have done?

And, in fact, if the website is not done for me, and people like me, then who exactly is its target audience? Steve Saunders "fans"? Can't they just write in and get a signed photo and leave the people who come to you for more normal actiities in relative peace? Be cheaper for you, and more pleasant for the rest of us.

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video Seriously! Looks like nobody's inviting BlueShoes over to their holiday party cause he's such a DOWNER

re: LR Debuts 2005 Corporate Video Steve

nice to know you are pleased that some of your readers got a kick out of your corp video. No doubt however there is a sizeable minority of your readers that thought it was self-indulgent crap, utilizing human and management resources that might have been better spent producing something of use to us.

Or are you only interested in viewers that indulge your own self indulgence?
