BT's New BIG SPITTER
2:10 PM -- There was a significant change in the BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) executive ranks today when the UK incumbent announced that its CIO (effectively the CTO, too) and CEO of BT Innovate and Design, Al-Noor Ramji, is moving on to pastures new (software firm Misys) at the end of March and is being replaced by Clive Selley.
Selley, an internal appointment (he is currently President, Portfolio and Service Design, at BT Global Services ), takes on a massive responsibility, because he is basically responsible, not only for all of BT's Service Provider Information Technology (SPIT) assets, but for the network infrastructure, too. That means he's basically in charge of 21CN operations.
At BT, the CIO role consumed the traditional CTO role when Matt Bross jumped ship to join Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (See Bross Quits as BT's CTO.)
In our book, that makes Selley a "BIG SPITTER." (See The SPIT Manifesto.)
And that's a good thing, by the way.
In fact, Selley has been closely involved in sealing some deals with some of BT's key SPIT suppliers. (See Tech Mahindra Wins at BT and Convergys Extends BT Deal.)
Also in his favor is Selley's willingness to support others that need a helping hand.
And he looks like he'd be decent in a karaoke sing-off.
However, we understand he is also a supporter of English Premiership soccer team West Ham United, also known as The Hammers.
