Light Reading's Back in California

There's lots of good news swirling around Light Reading at the moment. We have an old but new owner and grand fromage in the form of Steve Saunders, who announced the acquisition of this community on Feb. 3. (See Stephen Saunders Acquires Light Reading From UBM.)

As part of his expansion plans, we have immediately appointed a new West Coast Bureau Chief to the editorial team. That individual is Mitch Wagner, who I described in today's official appointment announcement as "smart, informed, witty, a good writer, and slightly unhinged." (See Mitch Wagner Joins Light Reading Editorial Team to check out Mitch's background and very Light Reading sense of humor.)

The Bureau is both manned and dogged: Mitch is joined by his canine companion Minnie, who some of you -- especially those working on software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) developments -- might get to meet, if you're lucky.

SHE HAZ A STICK!!
SHE HAZ A STICK!!

I mention SDN and NFV, as those are Mitch's core beats for Light Reading. He's going to be digging deep into the world of carrier network virtualization and getting under the skin of those at the sharp edge of SDN and NFV developments, as well as uncovering other telecom comings and goings on the West Coast of America, from big data and telco datacenter developments to the latest in routing and switching.

You'll be able to keep tabs on his blogs and news reports in our Carrier SDN channel.

So please welcome Mitch to our team on the message boards below. And if you want to reach out to him directly and in private (with a hot tip or some good gossip) then he can be reached at [email protected].

And if you want to meet him in person, well, OFC 2014 in San Francisco in March might be the time and place to do it. We're even having a party to celebrate Mitch's arrival. Minnie is also invited.

Re: For reelz @mitch I'm really glad you've got that under control.

Re: For reelz Well, Minnie is cuter, but I don't slobber quite so much. So there's that.

Re: For reelz @Mitch I wonder who will be more popular... Minnie or you.

For reelz Anyone meeting with Light Reading on the West Coast can indeed meet Minnie as well. I work from a home office and sometimes do meetings at this dog-friendly coffee shop

Re: Yay, Mitch! I haven't been able to get a picture of one of the three in the six weeks we've had 'em.

Re: Yay, Mitch! And a heckuva way to start too, Ray, with papal inauguration references. Can't wait to see the Orthodix rabbis lining up the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem next.

Re: Yay, Mitch! Maybe Minnie's a photo hog and chases the cats away whenever a camera is near. Or maybe the kitties are just camera shy. Guess we'll have to wait. Sigh!

Re: Yay, Mitch! You and kittens have that in common, Dan.
