ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Spirent Communications (NYSE: SPM; LSE: SPT) today introduced the Spirent Abacus 100 Analog Subscriber Generator, an analog call generator to test high-density analog voice devices and switches on a large scale. The need for analog testing is still high. With the introduction of new technologies such as Voice over IP, Passive Optical Networking, Terabit to the cabinet and Gigabit to the home, the need for analog testing to ensure convergence and the need to conduct testing at a reasonable price will continue to be prevalent. The Spirent Abacus 100 is able to test mature technologies against today's standard set of measurements in a cost-effective manner.

The Spirent Abacus 100 enables network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) and service providers to simulate high-density analog subscriber functionality for large-scale PSTN Telephony testing on a single, integrated platform. Because the need for multiple testing devices is eliminated, the Spirent Abacus 100 significantly lowers the costs for this testing. Customers can now test the convergence of their high-density analog telephony devices to IP telephony according to ITU standards, rather than proprietary technologies.

"Our customers have told us they need the ability to efficiently test high-density analog telephony ports at a low cost," said Bahaa Moukadam, vice president of IP Telephony, Spirent Communications. "Spirent Communications has responded to customers' needs and developed the Spirent Abacus 100 Analog Subscriber Generator which will allow users to test thousands more calls for thousands of dollars less than similar systems, all on an integrated platform that complies with industry standards."

The Spirent Abacus 100 gives users the flexibility to simulate a wide range of applications associated with switch and network testing. For example, it is designed for validating system scalability, identifying capacity limits, measuring call performance, enabling accurate capacity planning and providing end-to-end service assurance.

The Spirent Abacus 100 Analog Subscriber Generator is available October 2005.
