Spectrum for Any Occasion
Next year, Ofcom will auction spectrum in the 10 GHz, 28 GHz, 32 GHz, and 40 GHz frequency bands. It's high-frequency spectrum that can carry lots of data over distances up to 12 kilometers.
The different uses for this spectrum include wireless cameras (at 10 GHz), broadcasting for video links, backhaul for cellular operators, and fixed broadband access networks. There is even some interest in linking buildings in a campus environment to share data wirelessly.
With its technology and service neutral policy, Ofcom leaves it up to the bidders to decide what to use the spectrum for.
